Mindful in May Ambassadors: The Merrymaker Sisters

The Merrymaker Sisters

The Merrymaker Sisters created the Merrybody Online Studio and the Merrybody Method to help people learn to exercise in a way that prioritises self-respect, self-acceptance, and joy. This is the kind of movement we LOVE to support at Mindful In May, so when we found out that the duo were also avid meditators, we couldn’t wait to sit down for a chat! Read our interview below.

What led you to meditation?

When we started to focus on our health through eating real food, there was plenty of our own research going on, mainly Google, reading and speaking with like minded people. One common thing that kept popping up was the benefits of meditation. We decided to give it a go and have never looked back!

What value has practising meditation brought to your life?

Meditation allows us to become grounded and be present. When we realised that the only time we ever have is now, our lives seriously changed drastically for the better. We stopped feeling negatively about the past and it helped us release fear and anxiety about the future. It has made life much more peaceful.

How has meditation supported you in your professional life?

Meditation has taught us that we have all the time in the world. Where in the past we may have felt stressed over certain situations we are now in control of the way we react to every thing. Meditation also makes us more productive in our day to day tasks as it has brought more focus and clarity to the work we do.

What are the biggest obstacles to your practice?

Often we will let other tasks and priorities take preference over our meditation practice. We notice the difference when we don’t meditate, we become anxious or less focused. So we just make sure we get our meditation on as soon as we can!

What is a quote that most inspires you and why?

Follow your bliss. By the one and only Joseph Campbell. He inspired us to embark on merrymakers full time – and now we wake up happy, excited every. Single. Day! Life is blissful when you follow your passion, your dream, the thing that makes your hear sing.

What is a book that has opened you to new ideas and inspired your growth, why?

Mastin Kipp’s Growing With Grace. Mastin shares his journey of spirituality, it is very humbling, inspiring and made us realize that everyone has their own path and everything happens for a reason.

What is one lesson that you have learned through mindfulness practice that has supported you in your life?

Mindfulness has brought more joy in to every single moment of our lives. When you are mindful you enjoy the small things: even things like washing the dishes become more joyful! It is a much more lovely way to live and be.

Why are you being Mindful in May?

Mindfulness and meditation really changed our lives for the better. We’re being Mindful in May so we can help spread the message further and wider! We want everyone to know how amazing their lives can become through meditation and mindfulness.

"If we wish to be healthy, happy and clear-minded, we need to upgrade our “inner technology”of attention to meet the demands of our increasingly complex world. That's where mindfulness comes in.."
